Strategic Leadership: Aligning Performance Measures, Strategy and Politics
October 16–17, 2008

Data,  Metrics,  Measures, Reports….and the list goes on. With this seemingly endless stream of information, how do today’s leaders know if their organizations are successful?
While “data,” “performance,” and “accountability” are buzzwords for public and nonprofit organizations, a strategic perspective focuses leaders on the most effective ways to use data. The Ohio University Executive Leadership Institute (OUELI) helps managers focus on the use and application of data to drive their organization’s strategy. Thinking beyond mandated requirements and performance targets, participants will gain a heightened understanding of how to use performance data strategically.

Through case studies, small group experiences, and class discussions participants learn to:

  • identify crucial metrics;
  • measure strategic performance;
  • apply the Strategic Triangle model to their organization’s current measurement systems;
  • use data to enhance practice and to motivate staff;
  • and communicate key measures to stakeholders.

This program is an opportunity to learn strategies for meaningful performance measurement.

Tuition

Strategic Leadership: Courage and Compromise in Public Leadership
November 13–14, 2008

Public leadership requires a delicate balance of deeply held beliefs and decision making that serves the greatest good.  Making decisions where there is no consensus and no clear answer requires blending strategies of both courage and compromise.  This program challenges participants, and provides them with tools to approach their own leadership dilemmas effectively.

The Ohio University Executive Leadership Institute (OUELI) takes an in-depth look at the issues inherent in the political process using theory, historical accounts and personal experience.  Through advance readings and class participation, leaders explore the means and ends involved in achieving public purpose and reflect on the essentials of political dilemma and compromise.

Using historical and contemporary issues to heighten perspectives on what it means to lead in a democratic society, participants gain

  • a framework for considering the dilemmas of leadership,
  • the opportunity to discuss classic and contemporary notions of leadership with experienced political strategists and leaders, and
  • the chance to define the ideals of courage and compromise in relation to their own leadership style.

Tuition
$445: Includes all instructional materials, breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks each day, one dinner and parking.

Strategic Leadership: Leading Change
December 10–11, 2008

The work of public and nonprofit organizations is in a constant state of change. In order to remain relevant, organizations must improve services, respond to dynamic client needs, meet political expectations, and take advantage of new technologies.

Leaders are required to do all this while continuing to manage the organization’s current demands.  How can public and nonprofit leaders use the potential of planned and unanticipated change successfully?

Through an interactive computer simulation, class discussion, and case studies, participants learn to

  • manage a successful change effort;
  • sequence change steps;
  • understand effective decision making;
  • assess stakeholder resistance; and
  • build a change team.

The Ohio University Executive Leadership Institute (OUELI) invites you to take this opportunity for an in-depth look at how to harness the power of change to create public value.

Tuition
$495: Includes all instructional materials, including three months access to an online change management tool; and breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks each day, one dinner and parking.
